What is Social Distancing

Social distancing is a way to reduce the social interaction or physical contact between people to help reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).  This will help reduce the number of new infections and slow the spread of the epidemic.

These steps include

  • Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) such as fever, cough, shortness of breath

  • Avoid going out unless to the market to get groceries or pharmacy to get medication

  • Avoid large gatherings or public places such ascinemas, restaurantsor shopping malls

  • Avoid unnecessary gatherings with friends and family. 

  • Keep in touch using remote technology such as the phone orsocial media

  • Use telephone or online services to contact your doctor or other essential services

  • Try to work as much as possible from home

 

You are strongly advisedto limit your face-to-face interaction other people, particularly if you:

  • are pregnant

  • are elderly (especially over the age of 70)

  • have an underlying health condition (such as hypertension, diabetes, heart or lung condition)
